Hello.
June was an incredibly busy month because I’ve now finished my undergrad course! Between my final exam, setting up/ taking down the degree show and finally seeing friends for the first time in a long time it’s been the longest and fastest month ever.I cover a lot of random things as usual, so I hope you find something new to try out because of this.
The definition (expansion?) of the acronym REPORT, stands for reading, eating, playing, obsessing, recommending and treating.
Reading
I finally finished “Vox” by Christina Dalcher. (3.5/5)
If you enjoy books like the Handmaids Tale this is a modern day look into what it would be like to control how many words women can speak per day, conservatism and the influence religion has on politics. This is the book for you.
I did finally buy “Fake Love Letters, Forged Telegrams, and Prison Escape Maps: Designing Graphic Props for Filmmaking” by Annie Atkins a film graphic designer. You might know her work from the Wes Anderson film “Grand Budapest Hotel”.
It’s a great book to learn about the different things she’s learnt over time and getting to see all the little details in handwriting, paper and images is the best part!
Eating
Cucumber salad. Specifically with soy, garlic, dried chili, spring onion and lime. It’s super refreshing, spicy everything I’ve wanted to have during the mini heatwave here.
Playing
Spider man into the spider-verse (2023), I know the films are well loved. However it’s the combination of the music and the animations that are going to keep it at the top of my favourite films.
Obsessing
Mangoes. I think I said this last year too but honestly nothing is better having mango in this hot weather. (The UK is experiencing a heatwave.)
Matcha (no surprises here)
Recommending
Going through random magazines that I’ve collected over the past few years and just choosing a random page to read from. It’s nice to rediscover information that I’ve forgotten about.
Two fragrance reccs ( to smell or to own)
Wild Fig candle from Rituals. A little sweet but not too sweet and slightly floral.
Vanilla Skin by Phlur, it’s a very sweet smell but the vanilla scent is exactly what I’ve been looking for recently.
Thank you for reading all of the things I’ve been enjoying this month.
